At the dinner table is a great time for familys to get together and enjoy some quality time with each other. It’s actually been proven that family’s who eat together seem to have a better chance of having a better relationship with each other, and this is very important to have.

Having a good family dinner all starts with the meal that is prepared. It’s not going to be a good dinner if not everyone enjoys the meal. I know that it’s hard to try and please everyone with just one meal, but it can be done. There are many different types of foods that can be choosen from.

Let’s take chicken as an example. This of course only applies if your whole family likes chicken, but there are literally hundreds of ways to prepare chicken. There’s barbaqued chicken, grilled chicken, fried chicken, and many many more. There’s usually always a way to make chicken that everyone enjoys.

Desserts are also great to have at family dinners, but they’re usually reserved for special occasions and such. It’s true that there’s always room for dessert no matter how much dinner is eaten. There’s something about dessert that makes us feel as if we aren’t too full to eat it.

One good thing to make for dessert is homemade pudding. Pudding is very easy to make and many people like pudding. If you want to be more creative then you can take the pudding and put grahm crackers underneath of the layer of pudding. This tastes very good.

Another dessert that you might want to try that’s relatively easy is to make brownies. It’s not very hard to make brownies and most people love them. If you take the time to make them then I’m sure you’ll see why it’s a good idea.

One of the most common wine-related questions concerns what wine goes with what food. Many people mistakenly believe that they will ruin the whole meal if they make the “wrong” wine choice. The good news is that it’s impossible to queer a good meal if you select a wine that you enjoy regardless of what the “wine experts” say. But: How does one know which wine will compliment which dish?

Old rules:

They say: red wine best with meat and white goes to fowl or fish. These rules is for braking them. Pinot Noir as a lighter red nice with salmon. Sometimes “white rules” has been broken, for example when Chardonnay goes with a liver pate or juicy grilled steak. As you can see there are general and non-usual directives about pairing. Choose a sweet food. Japanese Teriyaki and honey-mustard glazes are good ingredients. They will cause a drier taste in your wine so you should use off-dry wine for matching. Flavor balance makers are: White Zinfandel, Riesling.

If you like salads, soy sauce or even lemony foods then you should consider their higher acid content. In these cases pair them with higher acid wines like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio.

Bitter and Astringent (Tannic) Foods like a mixed green salad of bitter greens, Greek Kalamata olives and charbroiled meats accentuate a wine’s bitterness so complement it with a full-flavored forward fruity wine (Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot). Big tannic red wines (like many red Zinfandels, and Herdingcats Cabernet Shiraz or Syrah wines) will go best with your classic grilled steak or lamb chops, as the fat in the meat will tone down the tannin (bitterness) in the wine.

One Amazing Food And Wine Experience

If you are a massive fan of food and wine, and if you get goosebumps thinking about a food and wine experience then you have to read each word here.

Close your eyes and imagine the fun that happens when you join an online contest and you get to show off your best recipes and how they go best with your favorite wines!

And what would you call a contest such as this? You’d call it The Great Taste Challenge.

Men and women from across the US literally went into their favorite recipe books to decided what to make in their kitchens.

This was all done on video.

These very personable people showed exactly how they made their dishes on camera.

Then those wonderfully animated people revealed what type of wine they thought complimented that dish best.

There they were, doing the thing that gives them such incredible joy…showing off their talents in the kitchen for their love of the corkscrew!

And these entries this year literally poured in.

What a wonderful way for people to show off one of those things in life that simply brings them so much joy. And who even knew that so many people were this passionate about the pairing of foods and wines? Who really knew that there were so many people out there looking for an excuse to create a food and wine experience?

Then the fun with the voting began.

That’s when these wonderful folks started to harness Twitter and Facebook and Flickr and every other social site they could to get the word out as quickly as they could that their video recipe submission needed the vote. It very quickly became an “American Idol” like atmosphere for voting where people not even associated with the contest started to have real favorites. Total blast.

These people started to tell everyone to go vote for them online so that they would have a shot to win.

What a blast.

But guess what…the Great Taste Challenge is not yet over and is still looking for you to get in on the voting!

Let me go right out on a limb and say that I had no idea that food and wine matching was such a passionate practice.

Who was supposed to tell me that all of this was happening with foods and wines?

But people have become ravenously adept at pairing foods and wines.

And in this new world, there are few rules.

Hey. remember the old days when a spaghetti dish meant it should be paired with a red wine?

Those days are completely over and the wine companies are the ones enabling this exciting new way of thinking. Why indeed should a certain dish automatically be paired with a certain type of wine when really, there are no rules to this that have to be followed! Is this the time to break with centuries worth of tradition to achieve the right food and wine balance?

Absolutely!

This is a new world to the old thinkers!
